Playing poker tournaments can be fun and profitable. When you play online poker, there is almost always a poker tournament about to start. If you want to be a winning poker player, you don’t need to go to a poker school, you just need to understand use correct strategies. Rebuy tournaments have a special bankroll management strategy to them, and I am about to share it with you. The first thing to understand about rebuy poker tournaments is the fact that people play much more wild and loose when they can go broke and then buy back in. Many people refer to the rebuy stage as shove and hope. For this reason, you want to play a much tighter range of starting hands. Play hands you would be willing to commit your entire stack on. Maybe not preflop, but on enough flops that it is worth at least calling a raise or two. How many rebuys you are willing to make is something you should know before you sign up for the tournament. 5 rebuys is a good rule. This gives you the ability to play your game without the fear of going broke early and it doesn’t commit so much money to the tournament that you have to win it in order to show a profit. Consider your bankroll management strategy when choosing a rebuy tournament to play in. Remember to include the cost of rebuys in your calculation of the buy-in. Suppose your tournament buy-in limit is 2% of your bankroll. If you are considering a $5 buy-in with $1 rebuys then the actual buy-in would be $10. If $10 is not 2% or less of your bankroll, you do not want to play this tournament. At the very beginnings of the tournament rebuy. If everyone on your table rebuys then you are on equal footing. If not, then you are on equal footing with those who do and at an immediate advantage against those who don’t. If you go broke, take advantage of the ability to double rebuy. Do this a maximum of 2 times. If you go broke three times in the rebuy period, consider your money spent to learn poker strategy for rebuy tournaments and move on to your next endeavor.
